Whether you’re into trail running or just like to start your day with a light jog around the streets of Lisbon, we think the following areas of the city are simply perfect and will help you to start your day as you mean to go on.

Eduardo VII & The Green Corridor

Undoubtedly, the most popular running route in Lisbon, but for a reason. This route offers dedicated runners the opportunity to cover some real distance but there are also plenty of opportunities to opt for a shorter jog and the scenery is simply outstanding.

Eduardo VII is a 65-acre masterpiece in the heart of Lisbon making it rather busy, but this just adds to the appeal and the atmosphere as this creates a friendly and motivating location for you to enjoy your workout.

Box hedges, a serene lake, Gulbenkian Park and the Green Corridor which take you all the way to Monsanto Park all characterise this route superbly and will certainly inspire you to stay dedicated to your exercise regime and gain all of the benefits of running regularly.

Cais do Sodré to Belém

This run between two of Lisbon’s most famous districts is really popular amongst locals and students alike and a great choice for anyone looking for an urban route.

It is also great for seasoned runners as it is around 13km of completely flat terrain, making it popular for those doing serious training. You can, of course, opt for a shorter version.

The best time to run this route is actually in the evening as the sunset is breath-taking and because it’s in Lisbon, this sunshine is pretty much assured every evening of the week.

Simply run along the river

If you’re more of a casual runner and you’re simply looking to get a little bit more active during your time studying in Lisbon, then why not run down the river?

You can start at the Marina and run pretty much any direction you like with amazing views of the sea the whole way. Like most of the routes in the city, it’s almost entirely flat which is easy on the knees but still allows you to burn calories and feel great by the time you get back onto campus.

You may also want to consider running underneath the Vasco Da Gama Bridge and add some classic Lisbon culture to your run, this won’t be bad for your Instagram either!
